A Smiling Face Really Means-

What does it mean?
Mary Jane always has a smile on her face.
She enters the room smiling, has a smile for everyone she greets.
What does that mean?
Is she just the sweetest, happiest person in town?
Is she carefree, kind and confident?

And there's Billy Bob.
He always seems to be thinking seriously about something, who knows what?
He does laugh and smile at times
But that's not what one remembers about him, a jolly, happy, smiling face.
What does this mean?
Is he always troubled?  Is he habitually sad or angry and just doesn't feel  like smiling?
Is he mad at the world and has nothing to smile about?

Recently a very intelligent thoughtful young teenage boy made a carefully considered assessment of Billy Bob:  "I've figured out something.  Just because Mr. Billy Bob isn't smiling doesn't mean he's not happy."

Why can't we just let people be..

The Billy Bobs are often much more sincere and honest in their interactions with others.
When he pays a compliment  it's from the heart.

A Mary Jane smiles and says nice things..that's what a M.J. does..that doesn't mean she's always sincere or is genuinely happy.  That's just her natural temperament.

[ note: Mary Jane and Billy Bob are ficticious names-some of you might recognize the Billy Bob as someone in our circle of family/friends]

Longest Yard Sale- Let's Go!

The World's Longest Yard Sale August 5-8th..our first time to take in this ..hope we can share some interesting pictures and  better than average yard sale "finds" when we get back..

Random Thoughts:

With a tracker on each blogsite now I can see where site visitors are coming from or if they are coming!

My intention with this  blog thing was never to gather a vast audience but to have a place to document and challenge my own creativity artistically and making use of the technology.  I have never for a moment thought about the possibility of masses of people being interested for three minutes in what I have to say..I just need to say it!

I am so thrilled to see  ocassional visitors from all across the country pause for a couple of minutes whether you were directed from another blog or just a random  stop along the road as you searched the internet.

Warning:  Some days  you'll find nobody's home, other days you will spot the most random or duh post but just hang in there with me there will be bertter days [ creatively speaking ]

Time, Space, Focus and Vitamins

Our world today just moves so fast.  Almost every day we are challenged by the news, new things, improved technology and along with it so many opportunities to learn, to create.  There are so many things I want to do..seems hardly enough days to do it all but then our Creator doesnt make a mistake.  I just need to focus better on only the most meaningful opportunites and stay with those.

Today I want to clean, reorganize my computer desk to make the space more functional .  I want to dry some  wonderul hydrangeas for year round beauty saved..ok, that's taken care of thanks to a generous contact who is willing to share from her incredible bushes.

I must have at least half dozen things to locate on the internet..find a source for hot tub supplies cheaper than the present supplier...check out the sale items on coldwater creek on line and view and print more information regarding the longest yard sale about a week from now..need to make a plan sort of, and guesstimate re overnight reservations  for mmm 2,3  nights..plants that need pruning, weeds that have to be pulled, herb bed that needs cleaning up, a commitee Mtg. on Sunday afternoon and am I ever going to finish the  scrub down - front porch~ lest I should forget.. repaint the black porch furniture  this summer. Omy, that old iron bed of ours still isn't painted..have a perfect delicate, pale, pale,  pastel ready to do the job but I just remembered: "How many years will that paint remain usable stored out in the shop?" [ I am hoping 3 years at least ]

Did I mention  the day starts..after our Coffee, w an hour workout at the fitness center? [I am bragging now] That's 5 or 6 mornings each week now..GOOD FOR US..now I will  unabashedly BRAG when that scale begins to show my efforts are paying off.  I could be envious of Ted who has dropped  enough lbs to boast about but he doesn't and he's "my love" so I can't really  be envious of his success.

On and on it goes..those roses are looking neglected and the spent garden plants [ tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers] have to go which means some major garden work..[ no 'yard man' but a wonderful husband who is a farmer at heart ]

Note to self: "If you get off the computer you could help get it done?"

Good idea!

Something to Think About

I don't like that man. I must get to know him better. ~Abraham Lincoln

A very smart, special lady I once knew has a habit of posting very worthwhile quotes..like this one.
Thanks for sharing Vicki!

A Special Birthday

Is ANOTHER BIRTHDAY..it doesn't have to be a 50th, 60th or 70th, 75th..just ANOTHER BIRTHDAY!

BLOG RENOVATION-my excuse for unfinished housekeeping

-[I have to enter something here or it won't "save"]

A Note From Me

I am so glad you stopped by-whether accidental or intentional. Some days my posts will be entirely inspirational and other times quite random but the time we share can be worthwhile. My initial intent was to use this space for my Mobley Family notes { james n mobley line } I know one can only write when inspired to do so. With that in mind I caution you to expect various twists and turns in the conversation as we wander Down the Lane and Around the Curve. If you have a clue what a Lane is then you already know that a walk down the lane can be a solitary walk, ambling without the company of another or it can simply be a leisure experience with someone who's company you enjoy, working out the world's problems or just soaking up nature and God's spectacular creation surrounding you. There is enjoyment either way. I say all that to say this: "Our walk down the lane will be much more interesting if you come along with me from time to time. I am not the only one with something to share so please join in as you are motivated or inspired.
Please know that I have not abandoned my first blog Down the Lane. I still drop in to read comments and check my tracker to see who's reading or even if there might be a new Follower. I have noticed when I check the traffic on Like Gramma's House and come over to DTL I am seeing apparently the same visitors are checking in on both sights..based on the city and state and time frame of the visitors..That's Great! Thank you faithful few who are inquisitive enough to click on the links and come over. Let me explain ...in case you have missed it earlier: This is my original blog. At a point in the process of this project I began to drift in a new direction creatively and hence Like Gramma's House was birthed. By way of continued explanation for what looks like an orphaned blog here..I simply have not come up with a way, an idea for either following through with Down the Lane or closing it out. One cannot write without inspiration. I just don't have a clue where to go with this one. The only glimmer of a creative twist I have is to invite my cousins to contribute to the family stories, pictures with their own quirky takes... looking back Down the Lane. There has been no encouragement leading me to think they would pitch in. They all have wonderful memories to share.. and I am confident it would be worth while. Apparently just don't think what they have to share would be blog worthy.

My Gramma's House~

Time changes so many things. Loved ones are no longer here. Landmarks dissappear from the landscape. Entire communities are seemingly erased. Homes have burned leaving scarcely a footprint in the earth where they once stood. Even so, we still refer back to things 'the way they once were' as being ~Like Gramma's House~ http://mygrammashouse.blogspot.com/

There comes a time in LIFE when our COUSINS AGAIN become very important. I think that time has arrived. jwh
